Sexuality-
Composition- How a shot is put together
Rule of Thirds- A guideline which applies to the process of composing visual representations. Horizontally and Vertically there are 3 lines, at the cross sections there will often be important things on the lines or on the cross sections. It will draw attention from the audience.
Focus Pull- When the focus changes throughout a shot such as having the focus on the background and then bringing it to a character.
Sound Bridge- When sound crosses over shots.
How is sexuality constructed in this clip?
Camera Work
Two Shot- Showing their communication, and how the body language goes with it
Establishing shot- Shoeing how alone they are, they are on the only two in the show scene and it often shows how alone they are with all of the empty space
Extreme long shot- Used top show the loneliness of the area and how if alone how eerie it could potentially be.
Close up- Onto the mouth as they drink, showing the difference in the way they act around one another and how comfortable they feel.
Over the shoulder shot-
Rule of Thirds- All of the shots are on the lines so it is clear to the audience what they are meant to be focusing on.
The camera moves in from behind railings to show there may be an element of secrecy in the way that the dialogue becomes quieter.
Editing
Eye-line match between the two whilst on the beach, showing how close they are communicating.
Crane Shot used to show what they are doing and then immediately cuts when he gets what he wants out of the chest, this implies abrupt movement to get away from where they perviously were
Sound
Diegetic sound (dialogue), sound of seagulls to show they are at the sea
Non Diegetic as slow romantic music plays as they talk showing that they are getting closer and how they may feel about one another
Sound Bridge is used, the dialogue continues even though they change landscape or positions
Mise en Scene
Romantic lighting as if there is something between them
Body language is much calmer as he knows what he is and is comfortable. The more brushed up man is unsure and uptight about his possible sexuality, he clearly struggles to admit to himself of how he feels.
Clothing is regular, they portray one another by being simple in the way they dress, no one is superior.
In this clip it is clear that there is a certain secrecy to the two spending excessive time together, this is suggested by the time they spend together is all alone in big open spaces. This is shown through extreme long shots which shows how vast the landscape is. As well as this, as they are back near Danny’s flat the camera slowly moves in from behind a railing to also suggest that people are only there if they are securely listening in. The camera slowly moves in to add a romantic element. Sexuality is represented as more secret when between two males, not so many people are involved with the ongoings.
